About this place
Set along Ome Kaido in Higashi-Fushimi, Nagomi is the kind of neighborhood canteen you visit with a serious appetite. Stepping inside reveals walls and ceilings covered in signed cards from local university athletes, lending the dining room a lively, welcoming air. Even regular rice servings are piled high, and the generously portioned fare cooked with rich seasonings quickly satisfies empty stomachs.
Layered Mille-Feuille Katsu and Rich Diner Curries
The standout order on the menu is the mille-feuille katsu. Made by layering thinly sliced pork before frying it to a crisp, tender finish, this cutlet stars both in traditional set meals and atop comforting curry plates as mille-feuille katsu curry. The curry sauce has a mellow, nostalgic diner character, served with pickled shallots and fukujinzuke pickles with an approachable flavor that makes even large portions easy to devour. There is plenty of variety across the curry board, including classic thick-cut katsu curry, pork belly curry laden with hefty pieces of meat, and simmered beef tendon curry.
Saucy Pork Belly and Mixed Fried Sets for Lunch
The teishoku lineup is equally deep. Stir-fries designed to make short work of steamed rice include pork belly in a rich teriyaki mayonnaise sauce, an aromatic scallion and salt stir-fry, and classic ginger pork. Diners seeking variety among fried dishes can turn to the mixed fry set, which lets guests pick any 3 items from minced meat cutlets, crab cream croquettes, fried prawns, and fried squid. Service centers around the lunchtime hours from 11:00 to 14:00; payment is cash only, and table reservations are not taken. Asking for less rice is always an option if you prefer a lighter meal, but browsing the chalkboard to decide what to pair with it remains part of the charm.
